TabVigil privacy policy
Effective 30 October 2026.
The short version
TabVigil does not collect, sell, share or transmit any personal data or browsing data. There are no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no accounts.
What stays on your device
- Your refresh settings (interval, pause options, what to watch on a page) are kept in your browser's extension storage.
- To detect a change, TabVigil reads the page you asked it to watch and keeps a short fingerprint (a hash) of it in session storage, plus an excerpt of at most 140 characters that appears in the alert. Session storage is cleared when the browser closes. Page content is never sent anywhere.
- If you activate Pro, the license key is stored in your browser so Pro stays unlocked.
The one network request
When you press Activate on a license key, and roughly every two weeks after that to confirm the key is still valid, TabVigil sends the license key and the product identifier to the license store's verification service (Gumroad, api.gumroad.com). Gumroad receives your IP address as part of any web request; see Gumroad's privacy policy. The browser cookies are not sent. TabVigil sends nothing else, and nothing at all if you never enter a key.
Permissions and why
- storage: save your settings.
- alarms: keep the refresh timer running reliably.
- notifications: show the page-change alert.
- activeTab: read the address of the tab you open TabVigil on, so it can offer to remember settings for that site.
- scripting and optional site access: only if you turn on change alerts or "pause while I type", TabVigil asks for access to that one site. You can revoke it at any time in your browser's extension settings.
- offscreen (Chrome and Edge only): play the optional alert chime.
Children
TabVigil collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be published at this address and in the extension before the change takes effect.
